Certificate in Airfield Maintenance

Overview

The Certificate in Airfield Maintenance combines five specialized airfield maintenance courses into a certificate level program that provides participants with a broad understanding of how to effectively plan and implement airfield maintenance.

It also equips participants with knowledge of best practices for:

  • Pavement maintenance.
  • The maintenance of markings.
  • Maintenance of airfield electrical systems and NAVAIDs.
  • General airfield maintenance, including snow removal, night maintenance, drainage facility maintenance, and grass maintenance.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the benefits of effectively maintaining airfield assets.
  • Better plan and execute airfield maintenance works.
  • Apply best practices for pavement maintenance and rehabilitation.
  • Follow best practices for the maintenance of surface markings used on airfield pavements, including the use of proper techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Identify the key tasks associated with the maintenance of apron lighting, airfield ground lighting (AGL), airfield power supply systems, aircraft visual guidance docking systems (VGDS), and navigational aids (NAVAIDs), and the frequency with which they should be completed.
  • More effectively maintain unpaved / grassed areas and airfield drainage facilities, and undertake snow removal and night maintenance.

  • Airport operations staff and managers who are responsible for planning and implementing airfield maintenance programs.
  • Personnel responsible for maintaining airfield pavements.
  • Personnel who are required to remove and/or apply markings on airfield pavement surfaces.
  • Personnel who are required to maintain airfield electrical systems and NAVAIDs.
  • Personnel responsible for snow removal, grass maintenance, or other general airfield maintenance.
  • Contractors and subcontractors involved in airfield maintenance.
  • Anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of airfield maintenance best practices.

Course Content

The Certificate in Airfield Maintenance consists of the following five courses:

1- Management of Airfield Maintenance

2- Airport Pavement Maintenance

3- Maintenance of Markings

4- Airfield Electrical Systems and NAVAID Maintenance

5- General Airfield Maintenance

Each course includes an integrated online assessment. Candidates must successfully complete each assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion.
