This course covers the following topics:

1. Maintenance of Unpaved Areas

• Critical unpaved areas on the airfield and the key considerations for the maintenance of each area.

2. Snow Removal

• Unique challenges associated with airport snow removal.
• Development of an Airport Snow Plan.
• Snow removal methods.

3. Night Maintenance

• Why airports undertake night maintenance.
• The complexity and dangers associated with night maintenance.
• Recommendations for additional safety precautions.

4. Drainage Facility Maintenance

• The importance of effective airfield drainage.
• What to look for when inspecting airfield drainage systems.
• Cleaning drainage systems.

5. Grass Maintenance

• Developing a grass maintenance policy.
• By whom, how, and to what height should airfield grass be cut.
• Grass cutting equipment and disposal methods.
• Safety procedures, particularly when maintaining grass in key zones around the runway.

6. Perimeter and Access Control

• The importance of maintaining the airport perimeter.
• Key elements of the perimeter that require maintenance.
• Key maintenance tasks for perimeter fencing, lighting, security systems, surrounding vegetation, and access control points and systems.

Assessment

This course includes an integrated online assessment. Candidates must successfully complete the assessment to receive a Certificate of Completion.
