Airport Pavement Evaluation

Overview

The Airport Pavement Evaluation course explores key methods and considerations for the structural and functional evaluation of existing pavements.

The course can be taken as part of the Certificate in Airport Pavement Fundamentals for those wishing to gain a more complete understanding of the key concepts and considerations across the pavement lifecycle.

At a minimum, it is recommended that you have previously completed the Introduction to Airport Pavements course, as it provides important foundational knowledge that is extended upon in this course.

Competencies Obtained

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Explain what pavement evaluation is, why it is important, and how it differs from pavement design.
  • List the key sources of information for pavement investigations.
  • Recognize the benefits and drawbacks of different approaches for determining a pavement’s composition and strength.
  • Explain why a standardized pavement strength rating system is required.
  • Explain how the ACR-PCR pavement strength rating system works.

Who Should Enrol?

  • Airport operations staff and managers, regulators and inspectors, engineers, project managers, and others who are responsible for designing, constructing, evaluating, or maintaining airfield pavements.
  • Anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of airfield pavements.
