Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) 7.4 – Handling, Loading and Unloading Cargo at Warehouse/Aircraft

Overview

This course explores key issues related to processing or accepting goods presented as general cargo and is based on the latest IATA DGR and ICAO-TI publications.

It is designed to equip participants with the knowledge required to prevent undeclared dangerous goods from being accepted into air transport and loaded on an aircraft.

In accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s competency-based approach to dangerous goods training, which came into effect on 1 January 2023, those involved in the transport of dangerous goods by air are required to be a) trained and b) assessed to demonstrate their competence to perform the function(s) for which they are responsible.

After completing the course, participants must follow their organization’s procedures for completing a competency-based assessment.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Become familiar with the legal requirements for dangerous goods, restrictions, proper handling and storage, labelling, marking and documentation rules.
  • Understand that some items may endanger the safety of the aircraft or persons board, and the carriage of these dangerous goods by air may be either prohibited or restricted.
  • Identify hidden dangerous goods in cargo, mail, and passenger baggage.
  • Understand, explain, and apply the basic procedures in the event of an incident or emergency involving dangerous goods.

Who Should Enrol?

Those involved in the transport of dangerous goods by air must complete training and assessment based on the function(s) they perform every 2 years.

This course is designed for personnel responsible for handling cargo in a warehouse, loading and unloading unit load devices, and loading and unloading passenger baggage and aircraft cargo compartments (Function 7.4 – previously CAT 5 & 8).

This may include freight forwarder, airline, airport operator, and ground handling personnel.

Assessment

This course includes an integrated online assessment.
